We recently conducted an independent security risk assessment for a hospital in Bloemfontein, where we identified several vulnerabilities that are often overlooked by standard assessments. Our independent approach enabled us to recommend practical strategies to improve patient, staff, and visitor safety while strengthening the facility’s overall security.

When the hunger monster turns into crime
Hunger is more than just a social issue—it is a major security risk. With unemployment at an all-time high in South Africa, desperation pushes many toward crime. A survey of 73 individuals found that every single one admitted they would steal to feed their families. Each unemployed person supports at least five others, intensifying the crisis. Crime is becoming more structured, with large-scale theft escalating. Some businesses and households contribute to the problem by purchasing stolen goods, while corruption further weakens security efforts. Rising frustration could lead to unrest between those who have resources and those who do not. Relying on law enforcement is not enough. Independent security risk assessments help expose weaknesses before criminals exploit them. While crime cannot be entirely eliminated, taking proactive security measures can significantly reduce risks.
The Reality of Farm Attacks
Another farm attack. Another life lost. Another fleeting headline.
Farm attacks in South Africa are calculated and vicious, yet many farmers believe they are immune. They trust fences, cameras, and armed response, assuming these precautions are enough. But criminals identify security flaws long before the victims do. Security isn’t about taking chances—it’s about eliminating threats before disaster strikes. Despite the surge in farm attacks, many farmers reject professional security guidance, convinced their experience is sufficient. Yet, reactive measures like alarms and armed response only take effect once an attack is already underway. Independent security risk assessments pinpoint vulnerabilities before criminals take advantage. A farm attack is rarely just a robbery—it is often brutal and intentional. Ignoring security risks only makes a farm an easier target. Just as companies conduct financial audits, farms need security assessments to protect both lives and livelihoods. The real question is, will farmers act before tragedy occurs?
Social Media: A Hidden Danger
With nearly 70% of online content being unreliable, social media is a digital minefield. Each post, comment, and share can expose personal details to unintended audiences. AI and image filters make deception effortless, allowing criminals to manipulate both children and adults. Privacy settings are essential, as even seemingly harmless posts can be exploited. Cybercriminals posing as friends extract personal data, increasing vulnerability. Sharing locations, recognizable backgrounds, or luxury items can make individuals easy targets. Furthermore, an online footprint can affect job opportunities, and fake job offers often lure people into dangerous situations. In today’s hyper-connected world, securing personal data is no longer optional—it is a necessity.
